Maybe you thought already about the lifestyle of Divemasters and
Instructors you have met. Diving, travelling, meeting new people and
the best of all, work they truly enjoy! In fact, diving offers great
opportunities for a fantastic and exciting career! As a growing
international industry diving offers unlimited opportunities –
from a salesman in a dive center up to Divemaster or Instructor in
exotic dive locations worldwide! It does not matter which career you
choose, the PADI certificate is the starting point of success.
Divemaster
Course
The PADI
Divemaster course is the entry to professional levels in diver
training and therefore plays a pivotal role within the PADI system
of diver education.
Those who join the ranks of PADI Divemaster assist Instructors with
training student divers, plus supervising diving activities for
certified divers and skin divers. These entry-level professionals
strongly influence the safety and fun student divers enjoy during
training and diving. At the same time PADI Divemaster is an
opportunity to look ahead to Instructor level. Working as a
Divemaster provides the hands-on professional experience required as
an Instructor.
The Divemaster course is a performance-based program, so course
duration depends on class size, logistics and Divemaster candidate
performance characteristics.
The Divemaster
course is divided into three modules:
- The Knowledge
Development Module
- The Water
Skills and Stamina Module
- The Practical
Application
The Knowledge
Development Module establishes the foundation candidates need as
professional-level divers. With independent study of the Divemaster
Manual and the Encyclodedia of Recreational Diving, you will acquire
the knowledge to understand, answer and explain the Knowledge
Reviews of the Divemaster Manual, plus the questions in the Diving
Knowledge Workbook. Once the Divemaster candidate is confident with
the Diving Knowledge Workbook, he is well prepared for the eight
final exams, which cover all parts of diving theory.
The Water Skills
and Stamina Module develops the candidate´s skills to the role
model level appropriate for demonstrating to student divers. The
Stamina Assessment portion evaluates basic swimming skills, which
are necessary for an active professional. Additional the skills
beyond the Rescue Diver level are also refined.
In the last
module, the Practical Application Module, the Divemaster candidate
gains experience in practical skills typical for a Divemaster.
The first part
consists of required training exercises, which every candidate must
conduct. These exercises improve the ability of problem solving and
organisation, both important skills for the diving profession.
The second part
allows the candidate to develop his Divemaster instructional skills
with real students under the supervision of an Instructor.

Assistant
Instructor / Open Water Scuba Instructor
We would
love to help you take the step in changing your hobby into a
profession, where every day you meet new people.
The IDC prepares you for your role as an Instructor. You will learn
how to prepare and present theory sessions. You will organise,
control and conduct training sessions, in confined as well as open
water. Your knowledge of dive theory and the Standards and
Procedures of the PADI System will be evaluated as the last step in
the preparation for your future profession.
Below you will find all the information you need about costs, the
schedules and required material, plus some advice on how to prepare
yourself for the course. In all professional courses the participant
must have their own dive equipment.
Preparation
Course:
The
Preparation Course is highly recommended for every participant.
During your IDC there is usually no extra time to repeat
presentations, skills or parts of the dive theory. You will have
mastered this material in your Divemaster Course already. This
Preparation Course is for any who do not feel fully confident in any
of these areas. After the Preparation Course you can start the AI or
OWSI with additional confidence!
Assistant
Instructor Course:
The goal
of PADI´s Instructor Development Course (IDC) is to prepare the
candidate for a profession as a PADI Assistant Instructor or a PADI
Open Water Scuba Instructor. Divemasters can choose to participate
only in an Assistant Instructor Course and after a successful
conclusion they are allowed to assist the PADI Instructor conducting
courses. This is a good option to get more experience and gain more
familiarity with the PADI system and philosophy.
