International Diving license to 18 meters: The PADI Open Water Diver is the “classic” diving license. When going for this course you will learn how to dive in a safe and responsible manner to a depth of 18 meters. Then you’ll be allowed to dive most of the world’s dive sites and cover the most interesting part of a reef. A wide range of important diving skills and theoretical knowledge will be part of this course.
The course can be done in three days. On the first day you will be practice with your instructor in the pool and go through the dive theory with him. On the second and on the third day we will take you on one of our diving trips and you will do the required dives in open water.
Prior to the actual course you will prepare yourself for finishing the diving theory. Therefore, we have the PADI Open Water Manual in different versions. As a book, as a pdf-file or as an e-learning tool. It contains five chapters which cover the complete diving theory. At the end of each chapter you will answer all knowledge reviews and discuss them with your instructor, before you work yourself through the quizzes and the final exam. When using the e-learning option you can do the quizzes and the exam on your own by logging into the PADI webpage. After having passed the final exam you have finished the diving theory.
You can find more information about the chapter 1 to 3 of the Open Water Manual following our web link for the Scuba Diver course. Chapter 4 then has quite a lot of information - especially about decompression theory. Here you will understand how diving affects your body and which procedures therefore you have to follow when going for a dive. You will learn about the influence of nitrogen on your body and what you should consider in this regard while on a dive. In chapter five you will learn about further aspects of diving. For example, flying after diving, navigation or diving in special conditions.
At the end of every chapter you will also get an overview about the imminent open water dives 3 and 4.
As well as for all other days of the course, also for the first day in the pool you will get picked up at the reception of your hotel by our air-conditioned minibus. At the pool your instructor will give you a detailed introduction for handling and use of scuba diving gear. Already at this stage you will practice assembling and disassembling of your equipment. When going into the pool you will be training several practical exercises. The skills you will learn here shall prepare you for situations you might be facing in open water.
After the “pool session” you will complete the diving theory. How long this first day at the pool takes depends on your own or on the group’s performance. Usually participants are back at their hotel by 2 or 3 p.m.
On the second and on the third day our super-comfortable and spacious catamaran will leave at 8:00 a.m. and head off to the dive sites. On the way to the dive spot your instructor will prepare you for the dive and you will practice again how to set your equipment up.
On the first day on the boat you will be diving to a maximum depth of 12 meters. While diving you will be training some exercises as well. On the third day of the course you will dive to a maximum depth of 18 meters. All of this will happen step by step and your instructor will make sure that you feel well and not exceed your personal limits.
At the beginning many things will be completely new or appear for you even to be weird. But after a while you will be feeling great in these new surroundings. You will start to realize slowly what is happening around you on the reef and you will manage to explore many interesting aspects of diving in this special environment. Now you have immersed yourself into a fascinating new world and you have arrived at an amazing destination that will thrill you most probably all life long.
At the end of the third day of the course your instructor will certify you to a depth of 18 meters. This diving license is valid worldwide for a lifetime.
